Great walks in Northumbria
by: artavia.seo

For a lot of people, taking a walk is one of the best things to do on their vacation. They love to hike, see beautiful areas, and find trails and other places that they can enjoy. In Northumbria, there are great places to walk. Alnmouth is one of these, with a taste of both country and coast. It's a gentle walk, and if the tide is out there is a beach route past Marden Rocks. If the tide is in you can enjoy the higher route before heading inland through breezy, open farmland. If that's not for you, you might want to try Humbleton Hill, The Cheviots. It's at the foot of the hills and starts in the bustling market town of Wooler. From there you'll head to the top of the hill to get some exhilarating and panoramic views, but be sure to spend some time in the town itself, because it's full of tiny shops and things to see. Craster at Dunstanburgh is also another great place to walk because it is full of so much natural beauty. There are wide and unspoilt beaches and a 14th century castle that is still standing. Crater is also a traditional fishing village, so you might want to get lunch there.

Classic Hadrian's Wall is another great place to visit. It was first constructed more than one thousand, eight hundred years ago in order to defend the Northern boundary of what was then the Roman Empire. It's now a World Heritage Site, and there are huge stretches of it that still stand today. There's a lot to see there, including excavation from Roman times, so it should go on the 'don't miss' list. Bolam Lake to Shaftoe Crags is another great walk to take and there is something for everyone on it. There is everything from ancient border defences to peaceful farmland to examine on your way, and you'll also find woodland and lake views as well as wonderful %26#8211; and strange %26#8211; rock formations. There are also important and beautiful sites not far from there, so your day of exploring doesn't have to end with your walk.
